Temple of the Midnight Sun

"West, you do realize, that if you fail to figure out how to get the piece, there will be no payment."

"I'm going to get the piece, I just need to read the inscriptions."

"Well we only have another few hours."

"I'm well aware of your time schedule, however, unless you suddenly learn to read this ancient language, you will be operating on my time schedule."

That was one thing you did not do to Alex West -- rush him.

Especially when he was attempting to figure out ancient inscriptions in the middle of a snow-filled temple, when one wrong utterance of a word could prove costly, to the point of death instead of profit, and while Alex enjoyed profit, he would forsake it to stay alive.

Which in this case, would prove difficult.

"Well what do you have so far?"

Alex eyed the pad of paper in his hand, full of sketches and drawings, as well as the lines of a poem, before reading it off. 'the light of the sun / cannot be undone / for riches and gold / you will have to run'

"What's that mean?"

"If I knew, we'd be out of here, wouldn't we." He retorted, rolling his eyes before he gazed about the interior of the temple, then allowed a small smile to cross his features. "There," a nod towards the ceiling. "That's what we need to do." A reach into his waistband to draw his firearm, and he aimed carefully before taking his shot at the sun motif inscribed into the ceiling. There was a crumbling noise as stone fell and snow rushed down, but as the sunlight streamed into the temple, the beam lit up a small statue of some god or something. He didn't care. He strode over to it, and carefully lifted the statue...

"...did you hear that?"

Alex glanced over. "Hear what?"

A creaking groan echoed throughout the empty space.

"That."

The rush of cold, chilled, winter air came swift, then the soft rumble of snow...that wasn't...

"Move!"

This was not good.
